Welcome to SBYMA
The collaborative skills of working with other youth musically, under the direction and mentoring of experienced, caring but firm musical professionals provides the discipline. Playing in a band in front of live local audiences with as many as 400 in attendence provides the incentive.
WE HAVE ANNOUNCED OUR FIRST 2014 SUMMER PROGRAMS
During the Summer season, we offer summer camps with special guest speakers and different focus areas that are fun for "newbies" as well as productive for the more serious youth musician.
There are many tremendous performance opportunities in Santa Barbara during the spring and summer months (Solstice, Fiesta, Chase Palm Park, etc.), so we do some creative mixing and matching in the summer to get our kids in front of these enthusiastic audiences.
This is a unique opportunity for children to experience the joy of learning to play musical instruments as well as have the camaraderie of playing and performing in public as a band. Where absolute beginners can learn to play the bass guitar, guitar, keyboards, and drums as well as learn to sing powerful vocals. The intermediate and advanced student will also be able to improve their techniques with the guidance of the SBYMA teachers, al of whom are experienced performers and musicians.

Young Musicians Scholarship Fund
The Santa Barbara Youth Music Academy Young Musicians Scholarship Fund is structured. SBYMA would like to offer scholarships to students whose families are experiencing financial hardship. in order to do this, we are seeking support from the community.
By simply performing with our youth bands in public, SBYMA places students on a waiting list for financial assistance. These are kids that are extremely motivated, some perhaps gifted musicians, yet they are unable to attend SBYMA because they can’t afford it.
6 Week Programs
Want to learn how to sing? Want to learn how to play the piano, the drums or guitar? How about learning some proven songwriting tricks and techniques? Increase the breadth and depth of your musicianship in one of our short 6 week courses. The class size is kept very small and we keep the curriculum very focused.
Every year we have (sometimes famous) guest teachers that keep things fresh even for students in our year-round programs. We don't know exactly when our programs will be available in any given season, so keep checking in on our website. We'll keep you posted.
