Stop Dreamin', Start Playin'
Santa Barbara Youth Music Academy is an energetic academic environment that provides a full musical experience to youth in a fun, safe and ever-changing framework of musical styles and performance venues. We utilize tailored teaching and performance models that naturally unite Santa Barbara youth from all cultures and backgrounds in an environment that ignites a desire to learn. We are a group of musicians, teachers, mentors and engaged parental and community volunteers that encourage every child to focus on their own value and untapped potential through music. We prepare our students with an opportunity to develop skills that will help them successfully pursue and play music in college and throughout life.
The collaborative skills of working with other youth musically, under the direction and mentoring of experienced, caring but firm musical professionals provides the discipline. Playing in a band in front of live local audiences provides the incentive.
SBYMA has taken its first steps into "The Age of Social Media”! Check out our Instagram page @SBYouthMusicAcademy and Twitter page @SBYMA805 and use the hashtag “#SBYMA” to find various photos and videos capturing the talent of SBYMA’s students performing around Santa Barbara. Be sure to give us a like and show your friends and family! #StopDreamin’ #StartPlayin’

SBYMA Bands Rock Santa Barbara Fiesta
SBYMA bands are playing for Santa Barbara Fiesta audiences on Aug. 7 from 12:00 until about 2:00 on the Cantina Stage at McKenzie Park. SBYMA youth bands have played at Santa Barbara's Old Spanish Days on various stages since 2010. This is a great opportunity for the kids to show their chops in front of an audience that may have traveled to Santa Barbara from out of state or out of the country to enjoy Fiesta. We get lots of double-takes. We love that. Here are the lineups and the times of their performances:
Images From 2015 SBYMA Summer Camps
Are we having fun yet? Why, yes, actually we are.... During the Summer season, we offer summer camps with special guest speakers and different focus areas that are fun for "newbies" as well as productive for the more serious youth musician. There are many tremendous performance opportunities in Santa Barbara during the spring and summer months (Solstice, Fiesta, Chase Palm Park, etc.), so we do some creative mixing and matching in the summer to get our kids in front of these enthusiastic audiences. Here are a few photos from our 2015 summer camp.
