Matt Molloy is a 31 year old Santa Barbara native with almost 20 years of solid musical experience. His main instrument is the guitar but he also has experience playing and teaching the bass and drums. He has worked with the SBYMA for the last 4 years and has helped bands and private students of various ages and ability levels learn about music and improve their skills in a fun yet productive environment. The winner of the 2011 Battle of the Bands 16 and under division is a band called The Misfit Toys which is a band Matt has worked with for over 2 years. They just released their first CD of original music that they recorded at Playback Studios with Matt, who was also their Producer. The 2012 winner of the Battle of the Bands 12 and under division is Spitfire and they are another band that Matt has been working with for the last 3 ½ years. They continue to rock the house and improve with every performance! He is also working with Polaris, a finalist in the open division (ages 19 and under) of the 2014 Battle of the Bands.

Matt lived in LA for 5 years where he attended LA Music Academy and received a degree in Guitar Performance and Composition. He also lived in San Diego for 5 years where he attended UC San Diego and received a B.A. in Psychology and a Minor in History. He is a member of ASCAP (American Society of Composers Authors and Publishers) and has played guitar, bass, percussion and done songwriting for a variety of projects including nationally-run TV commercials, nationally-released film trailers and independent film scoring. Because of his success and experience with writing his own music Matt taught a Songwriting class at SBYMA from September-December of 2013. He also loves to perform and has done so with many different bands. Most recently, his last band Strikes At One ( performed in May 2013 at the Rocklahoma music festival, an event that featured Guns ‘n Roses, Alice in Chains, and many others.

Matt is currently putting together a new band where he is the lead singer and guitar player. This band is playing a mix of blues rock, funk and other styles. In May of 2014 Matt will finish up a Pro Tools recording class that he has been taking at Santa Barbara City College. He has also built his own recording studio and is currently pursuing various recording opportunities.
